About Eleonora Turco
I was one of those endlessly (and annoyingly) curious kids, totally fascinated by mysteries of nature. The urge to explore the unknown never left me. Instead, it guided me toward a career in science and continues to fuel my passion for biology today.I am a dedicated scientist with over a decade of experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology. Currently I am contributing to pharmaceutical manufacturing as the Senior Principal Scientist within the MS&T department at Novartis Austria. As the Functional Lead in the scientific team, I oversee and support process development, including process scale-up for manufacturing. Furthermore, I coordinate manufacturing support activities such as root cause investigations, process improvement, and life cycle monitoring (LCM) activities. On a daily basis, I coordinate a team of scientists, design experiments, analyze data, write protocols and reports, allocate resources, and interact with external clients.Throughout my Bachelor's and Master's studies in biology at the University of Rome-Tor Vergata, my primary emphasis was on human genetics and cancer biology as the focal point for my thesis projects. Following the completion of my PhD at the Vienna Medical University, where I investigated the molecular mechanisms of transcription regulation, I transitioned to a Postdoc position at the University of Vienna. During this period, my research focus shifted towards the exploration of the molecular mechanisms of autophagy initiation. In the course of my career, I mastered all aspects of protein and nucleic acid purification, including their biophysical characterization. Additionally, I gained experience in bioassay development, cell-based assays, fluorescence and super-resolution microscopy, as well as statistical analysis of experimental data. Furthermore, I established a network of collaborations with scientists from all over the world, and my research resulted in numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, including Nature and Cell publishing groups.

As the Functional Lead in the Manufacturing Science & Technology (MS&T) downstream development laboratory, I am overseeing the coordination of development and manufacturing support activities.
Postdoctoral Fellow
• I identified and characterized protein-protein interactions that play a crucial role in autophagy initiation, using a combination of in vitro reconstitutions, cell biology, fluorescence-based imaging techniques and super-resolution microscopy.• I published ground-breaking peer-reviewed researched articles, published in Molecular Cell and Nature Communications.• I supervised Master's students, overseeing all aspects of their projects and thesis writing.
Phd Fellow
• I described the molecular mechanism of histone H2B ubiquitination by means of in vitro reconstitution.• I ranked as one of the leading candidates during the selection process for the Vienna Biocenter international PhD program.
Associate Researcher
I characterized a disease-causing mutation involved in adenomatous polyposis and discovered a novel pathogenic mechanism using molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology.
