Account Engineer
Account Engineer
As an Account Engineer with AFM, I manage a book of business of various occupancies and give them personalized attention to meet their needs. I assist clients in understanding the risks present, prioritizing where to focus first, and guiding them through new business ventures is a daily occurrence. With a focus on engineering, I can bring my knowledge to our clients and adapt and understand their specialties along with any inherent risks. At AFM we believe that a majority of loss is preventable, and I believe our clients benefit from our guidance, whether it is through implementing our engineering recommendations, or through mutual learning of what could potentially happen.
Consultant Engineer
As a consultant engineer, I am interacting with clients constantly. I assist in identifying risks at client locations and provide recommendations on how to best reduce the risks. Engineering is at the root of all analysis and is brought to every interaction, along with logic to determine what are feasible solutions for our clients. I see something different on every client site visit, and am constantly learning.
Summer Process Intern
During my time at PakLab, I monitored the start of production lines and kept track of delays. The main focus was to record what was the most common cause for start-up delays, and the time loss associated with them to help improve line efficiency. I worked closely with employees, production, pre-weigh, and manufacturing managers during my time, and was able to follow the production of products from when the chemicals were first delivered to the site, until the final product was packaged for delivery. Communication was vital, as the root causes for some delays were not immediately obvious. I was able to talk to and work with people from various positions to understand the process better, and learned various aspects of the production operation. In shadowing the managers for pre-weigh and manufacturing, I was able to see another aspect of production prior to packaging, and saw the importance of managing components on a limited time frame.
Supplemental Instruction Leader
As the SI leader for a chemistry course, I organized and lead student study sessions three times a week. For these sessions, I collaborated with the student's professor to create lesson plans to help aid the students in staying on topic. Students who regularly attended my study sessions understood the material more clearly, and saw an improvement in their grades. Students from other chemistry classes would attend my sessions as well, finding that I was able to explain material matter more clearly for them. During each session, I prepared appropriate examples and had the students work through them. I motivated students to learn and work as a group, but understand on an individual basis. Although I was there to assist if they ran into a problem or had questions, I was not there to do their homework for them. The key factor of our sessions was for the students to learn how to study properly and collaborate with others. Many of my students organized study groups outside of the times available for our study sessions, finding that working in a group helped them. It was a very enjoyable experience, I loved working with the students. Many of the students I worked with were from very different backgrounds, and often there would be a large age gap. Working with such a variety of people and helping them to work with others helped me learn as well. I saw each student as a peer, connecting with them for what we had in common, and learning from our differences. Seeing what they were having issues with gave me insight on how they learned and saw the world, forcing me to look at my own learning methods. This experience helped not only the students enrolled in the course, but myself as well
Peer Tutor
The subjects I tutored were: Calculus, Chemistry, and Biology at various levels. A major part of being a tutor was to guide the student into solving the problems themselves, while providing resources and aid if needed. Tutoring at a community college allowed me to work with a wide variety of people, many older than myself and newly returning to school. Everyday I made sure to create a stress-free and open environment where the students knew that we were peers and able to ask questions freely. Students who came to me saw an improvement in their grades, and were excited when they understood a concept that we covered. It was a great learning experience, I worked with such a wide variety of people that I learned how to work better with different types of people. Each person that came in often needed a different learning method than others, so I often would have to change my teaching style for each individual.
