At YR Media I taught two classes and supervised three assistant teachers. I created a ten week curriculum for the advanced class, and a two week recurring curriculum for the new students. The class was held completely online using Zoom and Slack to communicate with the students and assistant teachers. I cultivated a welcoming inclusive learning environment to helps students feel comfortable while learning valuable skills. I also created lesson plans for students without software access so that everyone caould be included.

As the primary teaching assistant for the music production classes I taught and facilitated music production and music theory workshops. I also helped supervise high school teaching assistants. I also led the broadcast workshops to teach students basic studio procedure, DJ hardware, and DJ techniques. I oversaw the weekly radio show recording, helping music students feel comfortable with DJ transitions, and coaching journalism students on studio etiquette and how to use microphones properly.

I juggled multiple projects and assisted various staff members with client work. I Wrote short-form copy and chose pictures for weekly posts on the Jack London Square social media accounts. Drafted and revised 12 press releases based on long and short briefs from my supervisors for a variety of clients using client press release templates. I also gathered relevant daily news coverage for clients and input it into coverage report spreadsheets with PR value estimates based on CISION. I also posted upcoming client event listings across 11 event listing websites. Plus I curated contacts lists using Mailchimp and Excel.

I shared various restaurant duties with my coworkers including, making drinks, running food and drinks, checking in with and helping customers, working the register, processing online orders, cleaning and resetting tables, and restocking. During shifts we would change roles periodically. I practiced time management and balanced all the different responsibilities.

Worked within a team to set up a variety of concurrent events by buffing glasses and silverware, arranging and setting dining tables, tall boys and short boys, folding napkins, and preparing decorations. At the beginning of events I greeted guests and passed out horderves. Then I gathered food from the kitchen and brought it to each event to serve according to guest preferences (fish/chicken/vegetarian) for each course. I also checked in with guests, pouring wine and water. After events I helped clean up, then took apart tables and moved them into storage before setting up for the next day's morning events.

During the start of the semester, while the bookstore was busiest I assisted customers in finding the books and supplies they needed based on their school course list. Packaged, organized and distributed online orders for in-store pickup and delivery. Restocked shelves and took inventory multiple times.

To assist the fundraising team I redesigned newsletter graphics and wrote concise short-form copy showcasing program accomplishments for weekly fundraising email blasts. I created graphics for a small campaign to thank the Warriors for their donations. I updated Mailchimp contacts lists, and calculated costs for buying promotional items in bulk which could be used for future fundraising events and campaigns. I also consolidated news into one-sentence summaries for the ticker tape on the outside of the company building.

As part of the youth news team I wrote, recorded, and edited 2 one minute commentaries for KCBS, and two longer pieces for NPR about taking breaks during school, the Apollo 11 splashdown crew, and video game slang. I edited my peers writing and audio, along with my own and contributed to group discussions and planning activities.

In a small team I helped develop an educational game about water conservation using MIT app inventor 2. I created the artwork for an interactive website about Oakland’s gentrification which I also helped code, storyboard, research and plan. I also got to learn the basics of HTML and CSS.

In a small team I filmed and acted in three short videos about proper work etiquette. I also wrote blog posts about healthy relationships geared toward middle school students. I went on three field trips with my team to middle schools to facilitate discussions and lead activities encouraging healthy relationships. I also recorded radio shows in which I discussed relationships and health, and created a short presentation on the dangers of vaping.
