• Spring/summer – Sailor on Schooner Pioneer. Multiple duties, including sailhandling, line handling during docking and undocking maneuvers, standing bow watch (including watches stood at night and in limited visibility conditions), maintaining awareness of safety procedures and responses during multiple emergency situations (e.g. man overboard, fire, abandon ship), training new volunteers, and educating passengers in knot tying and nautical chart reading.• Winter – Maintenance for Schooner Pioneer and other vessels in the museum’s collection. Skills used and developed include, but are not limited to:o Sail repair A major project from winter 2015-spring 2016 involved adding protective panels to the head of Pioneer’s foresail, to mitigate and forestall chafe damage.o Paintingo Rust removal and prevention

Multiple duties, including sailhandling, line handling during docking and undocking maneuvers, standing bow watch, maintaining awareness of safety procedures and responses during multiple emergency situations (e.g. man overboard, fire, abandon ship), training new volunteers, and educating passengers in knot tying, nautical chart reading, and the ecology of New York Harbor and the Hudson River; ongoing maintenance projects, including but not limited to painting and rust treatment.

Assisted the Condé Nast archives with a limited-scope project to update the database of Vogue Magazine’s image files from 1930 to the mid-1990s with accurate geographical, biographical, and publication provenance metadata (performing light research as needed), with special attention given to drafting detailed descriptive text.(Temporary assignment, under contract with Smooth Solutions, Inc. of New Jersey.)

Assisted a project to modernize a backlog of sales and royalty reports by transcribing data from multiple static hard-copy records into a comprehensive digital spreadsheet.

First point-of contact for inbound ticket purchasing and general information requests.

Assisted with preparing Schooner Lettie G Howard for its departure to the shipyard. Tasks performed included:• Light maintenance on boat components• Assisting with rigging operations• Gathering and organizing materials (including paints, adhesives, and hand tools) necessary for work at the shipyard• Monitoring the boat’s general cleanliness and well-being (including regular boat checks)

As initial customer point-of-contact, provided front-line support for customers via phone and email for services including, but not limited to Email, website hosting, DSL connectivity, and UNIX shell applications. Escalated bug/trouble reports and application installation/upgrade requests to senior sysadmins through ticketing system.Wrote and updated documentation on website, and documentation for internal use. Accounting duties (processing payments, adjusting user services, applying charges and credits).
