About Eli Boeck
Throughout my professional career, I have taken a holistic approach to caring for people and the earth on both the global and local scales; I strive to promote environmental justice and conservation in its many forms, as well as to work on behalf of the disadvantaged and those whose voice isn’t heard, as these two issues are inextricably linked. I currently work both on a small farm and with Sonoma County Regional Parks. I will add the skills I'm gaining at both these workplaces to my organizational and management skills.Previously, I worked for the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs. I played a key role organizing Secretary Kerry’s 2016 Our Ocean conference, in particular coordinating, tracking, and negotiating language for commitments for ocean conservation. Additionally, as the State Department lead on and climate change-related impacts on the ocean, I acted as a liaison in multiple contexts, including the advisory committee for a public-private partnership to build capacity for ocean acidification monitoring in developing countries, a U.S. interagency working group, at civil society events, and within the State Department.Through fellowships and scholarships for advanced Arabic language study in Jordan and Egypt, I have attained full professional proficiency in Modern Standard, Egyptian Colloquial, and Jordanian Colloquial Arabic. Living, studying, and volunteering in these countries led to my ability to collaborate in a culturally sensitive style and adapt her behavior to different cultural norms and expectations. I have applied these skills to volunteering as an interpreter for recently resettled refugees from Syria and Iraq when I lived in Chicago and Washington, DC.
