Undertook four six-month projects and one three-month external placement on computing for scientific research, as part of the STFC graduate scheme. Developed a wide range of software engineering skills, from web development and REST API frameworks to the basics of database management and HPC, plus peripheral tools such as Docker and continuous integration solutions.• Wrote a Jenkins plug-in for running software tests on HPC, which is now live on an STFC service. • Used CASTEP to model the behaviour and possible structures of materials involved in a hydrogen storage reaction, the results of which are in preparation for publication.• Developed the ‘multi-VO’ feature for the Rucio open-source software; this feature allows a single Rucio instance to support multiple virtual organisations and is now being used at STFC to support collaborator experiments.• Performed full-stack Agile development for DAFNI (Data and Analytics Facility for National Infrastructure), completing several features that had been highly requested by users.• Participated in public engagement activities, mostly with primary school children, totalling over 50 hours in the 2018/19 academic year (reduced in 2019/20 due to secondment abroad followed by COVID-19 restrictions).• Supervised a team of work experience students for a programming project during STFC’s Engineering Experience Week 2019 (could not repeat in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions)
