Backplane was a startup started by Lady Gaga and backed by Sequoia, Greylock, and Founders Fund. It ultimately didn't work out, but getting to lead data science there was a lot of fun.- Led interviewing and built and managed a team of machine learning engineers- Evaluated all associated technologies and coded entire logging system and flow used throughout all of Backplane- Built entire backend portion of our Internal Analytics Portal and led development of associated frontend and visualizations- Created and wrote all backend and machine learning code for Backplane’s personalized feed,­­ which performed 30%+ better than original hot feed in all relevant A/B test statistics.- Built framework for interfacing between Elastic Map Reduce and analytics portal and main site- Built algorithms for generating trending topics, related topics, top users per tag, and others that increased time on site and user retention in A/B tests.- Managed other projects among development of our custom A/B testing framework, people recommendation, user retention stats, and spam detection.

-Built an implementation of fuzzy autocomplete that increased our E-commerce conversion rate 9.8% in A/B tests.-Implemented improvements to multilingual search that decreased 0 search result pages 20-50% per language in all supported languages.-Helped build out recommendation systems for photos and keywords.

-Worked on spam and phishing detection system using Python and NLTK, along with Hadoop and PIG for data processing.

-Worked on information extraction and classification for financial data using Perl, SQL, and MALLET-Improved author classification in analyst reports to increase tagging f-score from .78 to .96 and prevent timeouts-Built a title classification system from scratch to tag titles in financial legal documents using Perl along with MALLET classifiers.

-Main software engineer and tech support for the organization starting sophomore year of college.-Optimized registration website that would fail every year due to technical limitations to increase capacity from 300 concurrent users to 3000 using just two servers the company was willing to provide.-Managed biannual registration (10,000+ resource-intensive registrants in the first hour of Open Registration on just two servers back in 2008)-Created and managed a database synchronization system-Added user-requested functionality to administration website-Created and deployed new layout and functionality for various organization websites-Maintained and upgraded computers across the center’s network
