Lavoro Technologies acquired the QLogiX and associated software properties from Flow Data effective January 1st, 2017. Along with that acquisition, they extended employment offers to all of us in development. My role at Flow Data was merged into the responsibilities of the CTO at Lavoro, and I took the unfilled position of Support Engineer. This position assists leadership, sales and customers with technical expertise around our product. I help to define capabilities, assist with integration into existing systems, provide training and documentation for our product. I also assist development with new feature scope, context and feedback from customers and the sales force.I enjoy helping customers integrate and use our cutting-edge technology in on-the-edge advanced anayltics. Develop concepts for automation products and enhancements to existing products. As part of the Senior Management Team, help set priorities and workload for the Product Development Team. Work with customers to meet their requirements and provide added value to their automation solutions. Manage the day to day activities of the Product Development Team to ensure that development meets deadline and budgetary constraints. Manage the Quality Assurance Team as part of the development cycle to ensure the best possible product is delivered. Coordinate with the Product Support Team and Engineering as needed to support customers. In addition, manage and develop internal tools and databases needed to ensure Flow Data leads in the market. Flow Data has developed patented software technology and continues to innovate in upstream oil and gas automation. We develop using Agile methods on a wide variety of platforms, tools and frameworks, including Android, Linux, various PLCs, C++, Java, Python, Django, and IEC 61131-3.

Develop training programs for company and client Engineers, Application Engineers, Technicians and other personnel. Topics include Flow Data products (PADPro, PROVue), SCADA systems, other vendor's PLCs and RTUs, radio communications, electronics and other automation related topics. Also oversee the development and maintenance of technical documentation for Flow Data products. Work with the Development Team to coordinate new products and features with training and documentation. Manage budget and work with upper management on strategies for developing company employee skills for both Flow Data personnel and client personnel.

This position ran concurrently with another held at Flow Data during the same time frame (Programmer - see the other entry on that position). This position required both field work and office work integrating various automation systems for upstream oil and gas applications to meet customer requirements. This included licensed and unlicensed radios for data networks, development work on back end SCADA systems, various levels of electronics troubleshooting, installation and maintenance of various sensors and other devices. Knowledge of gas well operations: manual, timed, plunger and gas lift. Assist production operators and managers to maximize well production with both Flow Data automation solutions and others. Acted as technical liaison between Sales and prospective customers. Designed and installed various pilot projects for Flow Data solutions with new customers. Acted as trainer and mentor for new Flow Data technical personnel.

Designed and implemented user interface software for Flow Data's PADManager firmware, providing monitoring, configuration, reporting and diagnostics interfaces. Used the Python scripting language using wxWidgets GUI framework with other back end modules and interfaces supporting Modbus communications, Windows API interface and others. Some Perl programming to augment development tools. Worked with the rest of the development team to implement support for new firmware features. Provided in house and client training on use of the interface software, as well as training for how the PADManager firmware works and is configured. Programmed in TelePACE ladder logic; developed and maintained ClearSCADA host applications.

Assisted in system administration duties including backup and restoration of data, inventory control, mail and NFS support, application installation and configuration, systems log analysis, researcher support with customization of Emacs and other editing environments. Developed a publication referee application using Perl for use with an NLP conference (automated submission and distribution of papers to referees; scoring and anonymous feedback on papers including re-submission, acceptance and rejection, secure logins, etc.) Also supported Windows NT and Apple Macintosh machines on the network in the same capacity.
