Austin, Tx, Us

Helped develop and propose State Department grant to fund and develop the PAYLP Program at UT Austin in 2015-16. Met and worked with wide range of stakeholders to propose, team up, and produce the best possible learning experience for our PAYLP program. Selected to serve as inaugural Academic Director of the program and lead efforts to host three cohorts from 55 African countries. Team taught program and lead taught Social Entrepreneurship. Worked with diverse group of faculty to design and execute the program. We engaged a range of external partners including civic leaders, elected officials, investors, entrepreneurs, and fellow content experts from various institutions as advisors and coaches. Student teams developed high impact projects for implementation upon return home to address major social challenges and mobilize African youth. Stage one winners received $100 prize and final winners were eligible for $500 seed money.PAYLP is a partnership between UT, the US Department of State, and in-country partners in dozens of African countries focused on young leaders. We bring cohorts to Washington D.C., Austin, and Chicago for several weeks to stay with host families, meet leaders, attend coursework, and explore a range of topics related to Leadership Development, Social Enterprise, and Social Transformation. Upon receiving the honor of moving to Tarrant County to serve as Dean, it became practical to pass the baton to a local leader to forge ahead with the local team. Very excited to see where these outstanding young leaders go in the future and how their projects, programs, and service to the community positively impact the lives of others. This was certainly one of the highlights of my career after a lifetime of teaching international students from all parts of the world and all age groups. Many thanks to all of our faculty and mentors in this program! It is an honor to serve with such talent and humbling to take part in this wonderful mission!
