Elie LaPointe was born on September 16, 1981, on the island of Haiti. His father was a guitarist, and his mother was a singer. LaPointe is the oldest of 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Born into a family of musicians, Lapointe started to play music at the age of 4 as a drummer and singer in his father's gospel band, "Don Divin." Despite being a talented singer and a drummer, Lapointe did not find his true passion until he picked up the guitar. He would later go on to combine his singing and guitar skills to form his first band, Steel, at the age of 16, with fellow schoolmates and musicians Steeve Valcourt and Evens Guerrier. Steel was a band that played konpa, heavily influenced by R&B and groups like Boys II Men and Shai. Although Steel was not a majorly successful band, it did provide Lapointe with some exposure following the release of their album, (name of album), and an appearance on the television show "Chante Noel" which aired on the national Haitian channel Telemax in 1998. There he would meet Michael Benjamin, singer and guitarist, and Fabrice Rouzier, keyboardist and producer of "Haiti Twoubadour." Opportunity presented itself, and Lapointe would go on to participate in the 2nd edition of "Haiti Twoubadour" and sing a song titled, "Richesse," in the 3rd edition.In 2002, Lapointe moved to the United States and landed in the city of the Big Apple. He joined the famous band, New York All Stars which included the prominent musicians Shedly Abraham, Armstrong Jeune, Makarios Cesaire and Kenny Desmangle. His stay in the group would not be too long. However, Lapointe would flourish as a guitarist and backup singer performing live with reknowned artists Tanya St Val, Dédé Saint Prix, Orlane, Eric Virgal who recruited Lapointe into their group for their international tours throughout countries like United States, Canada, Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Martin, French Guyana, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Turks & Caicos Islands, etc
