I’m a Texas Tech University Honors College student with a relentless drive to revolutionize cancer treatment and care through immunoengineering research. With a major in Chemical Engineering and minors in Bioengineering and Chemistry, I’m forging a unique path as a future "physician-engineer-scientist." I’m passionate about the power of innovation in medicine, and I’m intent on pursuing a dual MD/PhD program after graduation to push the boundaries of what’s possible in healthcare. My current interests are in immunotherapeutics, studying how natural immune responses can be altered to better recognize and attack cancer cells. In the lab of Dr. Almodovar at TTUHSC Medical School, I research the effects of HIV Nef on pulmonary endothelial cell function and its role in causing pulmonary hypertension. Currently, I am designing and improving on methods to measure endpoints for nitric oxide production, angiogenesis, and adhesion molecule expression. In addition, I am utilizing my background in bioengineering to research and refine cell culture matrices to develop cell cultures that better mimic in vivo conditions. My work doesn’t stop at the lab bench. I’m also on the frontlines of a local public health study, tackling cardiovascular disease risk factors in Lubbock’s low-income and homeless populations. In addition, as a Student Board Member of the TTU System Health Policy and Public Health Think Tank, I serve on the Health Policy committee, analyzing health trends and disparities among cancer patients in Texas to inform state resources.I am unwavering in my commitment to advancing science, and I am eager to contribute to meaningful change.
