As part of team of engineers, we delivered service to the Walt Disney World data center in Kings Mountain, NC. My role at the data center was to be the SME during network incidents to troubleshoot and resolve issues with, Checkpoint, and Cisco Firewalls, F5 LTMs and Nexus infrastructure. We did a tremendous amount of operations which is where I started getting very interested in automation. It was a lot of fun to work on multiple projects with a host of characters. We converted ASA firewalls to Juniper SRX and converted Cisco CSS load balancers to F5 load balancers. It was a great culture where I learned a lot of technologies and made great friendships.

Working closely with knowledgable senior team mates was a really fantastic opportunity for me to broaden my horizon and learn more about the data center side of things. I supported a number of large projects with senior engineers leading the efforts. There were other times where I worked with project managers and application teams to gather network requirements for new applications and then implement those requirements. It was a rich experience and I'm grateful that the position allowed me to get hands on with Cisco hardware, common firewalls and other network devices for new data centers. I learned a lot about design, standardization, global operations, quality of work and so many other things.

Obtain vendor quotes and recommend, implement, and manage selected technologies including network and security gear, servers, and monitoring systems. Build network and security vendor relationships with a focus on future projects.  Managed numerous high profile security related projects including identifying a more cost effective email filtering system. Collaborated with multiple ISPs to plan, implement, and manage a multi-homed BGP architecture. Migrated security functions to Palo Alto Networks 2050 appliance.  Authored technical and general documentation in support of network, security, and telco systems. Created/maintained Visio maps of Layer 2/Layer 3 networks, phone systems, WAN circuits, and IP schemes. Implemented and managed all aspects of Cisco 6500, 3750, Nexus 1000v, 4001 (specific to IBM Bladeservers), ASA 5505 and 5510, Cisco IDS, MDS9216, MDS9148 and Juniper Netscreen-50. Responsible for implementation and daily operation of IPsec VPNs using Cisco VPN concentrator and later an ASA 5510.  Networked VMware system with over 200 virtual servers and EMC CX3-80/CX4-80/NAS using Nexus 1000v and Nexus 4001. Current plans are to migrate 6500 switches to Nexus 5000 and 7000 switches.

Successfully managed, maintained, and implemented Windows 2000 and 2003 servers running SQL and a wide range of applications using Secure Path software on Windows 2003 servers for SQL databases in support of AT&T’s bill print center. Employed expertise to perform advanced SQL administration and maintenance using T-SQL and 3rd party tools, design images, clone PCs, and create Visual Basic scripts to simplify redundant tasks and perform unattended installations of post installation applications. While on call, maintained the entire system and resolved issues related to SQL, Windows servers, and proprietary applications. Managed tape backups using VERITAS Net backup.  Setup and maintained hardware/software for Windows 2000 and 2k3 platforms. Confirmed firmware and software was patched, tested, and updated with the latest level available.
