I started debating in the first year of graduation. An absolute novice without the slightest idea of the format, tournament locations, etc. It was a long journey of experiences that eventually taught me a lot. Many colleges had debating societies with seasoned debaters helping every novice candidate. Since I was bereft of this opportunity in my college, I decided to start a debating society to nurture debating talent in juniors. After having won a few city-level tournaments, I brought together debating enthusiasts to train them. Regular practice sessions were conducted to send students to compete in local debate tournaments.

After attending debate tournaments at over 15 colleges in Mumbai, I had a sufficient idea of what entailed a good tournament. As a debater entering those tournaments, I had a criterion of expectations which many were unable to live up to. At the same time, a few of them were so amazing that they raised the bar. I wanted to pass on this fulfilling learning experience of a great tournament. So, I was the head organiser of the RGIT Debate Tournament for two consecutive years. The event was a massive success bringing in the highest participation. It also became the first even of RGIT to host participants from outside Mumbai.

With sufficient experience in organising large-scale events of my own, I was given the position of event management head of the IT Departmental committee. Prime responsibility required overlooking the management of various events, workshops, seminars that were conducted by ABIT. Management of publicity, marketing, creative teams to ensure smooth functioning of all events.

As a second-year engineering student who just entered into the IT Department of college, getting into the public relations team of ABIT was very beneficial. I have always enjoyed meeting new people and connecting with them. This role enabled me to meet students, not only from our own college but many others where we went for publicity. It was enriching to gain insight on what students look for in college events, what gains their credibility and what is attractive to them. It also helped understand the role of publicity in an event.
