About Eli Levitt

Eli B. Levitt is a resident physician at the Miami VA Medical Center / Jackson Health System. Eli attended medical school at the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (FIU HWCOM). He completed a Research Fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Eli played Water Polo at Johns Hopkins University.Eli conducts population health research studies related to the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH), Translational Medicine, and Orthopedic Surgery. Including several projects for the screening, identification, management, and prevention of SDOH. In addition, a major focus of his research involves the study of the long-term effects of falls in older adults, including the orthopedic disease, hip fracture. He has worked on NIH funded projects to study the local community of recent Latino immigrants, investigating the risk and protective factors of risky behaviors such as alcohol misuse. Other NIH funded projects have studied the factors predictive of COVID severity. Eli has written several IRB approved protocols, has over 60 abstracts, posters, and publications. He has received local and national awards for his research. He is on several student-run committees and was the Chair of the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association in Miami. Eli is a Global Impact Fellow of the Unite for Sight organization to end preventable blindness and a Rotary Club of Miami Thomas B. McClelland Scholar. He was selected to be the AAMC Herbert W. Nickens nominee for FIU HWCOM. Eli is a life-long student, educator, and mentor.
