As a full-time private dermatopathologist, I am thrilled to be appointed an adjunct professorship, allowing us to offer an elective rotation in our community dermatopathology laboratory, Spek Diagnostics. Medical students interested in pursing a career in dermatology or pathology, or who would like additional exposure to how an anatomic pathology laboratory operates are encouraged to apply. Rotators will be introduced to basic concepts in pathology, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, digital pathology, laboratory regulations, quality control, and artificial intelligence.

I specialize in the processing and interpretation of medical biopsies and excisions. My primary subspecialty is cutaneous pathology and am considered a regional expert in melanoma and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. I also have additional experience in and regularly sign out oral pathology, oculoplastics, and podiatric pathology. We run a full-service dermatopathology laboratory, serving several large medical practices in the Treasure Valley / Boise Metropolitan Area, Eastern Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Washington, California, and Texas.

For two and a half years, I worked as a key provider of dermatopathology services, interpreting skin biopsies and excisions, and rendering intraoperative frozen section diagnoses and evaluation of margins during cutaneous surgery.

Developed a plan to address a need for increased visibility of pathology as a specialty, especially during medical school, to improve the recruitment of new pathology trainees. Using these plans, our committee collaborated to develop a strategy for creating an online home for quality, accurate materials regarding the specialty of pathology for students. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center is ranked the No. 8 cancer center in the nation, sees more than 2,000 new melanoma patients per year, and is widely recognized as one of a handful of hospitals with exceptional melanoma and skin lymphoma expertise. I completed subspecialty training for one year with Dr. Jane Messina in diagnosis, staging and prognostics of melanoma and other skin cancers, and in interpretation of all malignant and benign skin biopsies. The program is supplemented by alternating rotations in the dermatology clinics and dermatopathology services at USF Morsani Clinic, the Moffitt Cutaneous Oncology program, and the James A. Haley Veteran's Health Dermatology Clinic. Participated in IRB-approved research on mycosis fungoides.

It is the busiest Houston-area hospital at 40,861 admissions per year and is affiliated with Texas A&M College of Medicine and Weill Cornell Medical College.For four years, I rotated through the anatomic pathology and clinical pathology divisions of the Department of Pathology and Genomic Medicine. Between junior and senior years of medical school, two medical students per year are awarded a pathology fellowship. I functioned as a first-year house officer in cytopathology, autopsy, surgical pathology, hematopathology, microbiology, immunology, transfusion medicine, and renal pathology. An international medical experience was included, in which I lived in Hirakata, Osaka, Japan for two weeks and rotated through the major medical disciplines at Kansai Medical University.

Extended shadowing experience at a large regional hospital and medical school in the Osaka metro area of Japan. Rotations included OB-GYN, Emergency Medicine, Orthopedic surgery, Pathology, Ophthalmology, Radiology, Internal Medicine, Nutrition and Rehabilitation Medicine, and Psychosomatic Medicine. Presented to house staff a lecture on Sickle cell anemia.
