About Elina Castillo Jiménez
Elina is a feminist human rights lawyer, committed to use her voice and skills to build a more just, inclusive and empathic world. She started Law school at 16, convinced it would give her the tools to understand and promote social justice. After a J.D. in the Dominican Republic, she pursued an LL.M. in Public International Law and Human Rights in the UK as a Chevening Scholar. She was the only Latinx-Caribbean woman in her class, graduating with honours.In her 7 years of international professional experience, she has worked at the intersection of human rights, gender, migration and public policy from government, grassroots collectives and international organizations. Thanks to her diverse background, Elina has solid skills and interests in:-legal research and public policy design, particularly for gender and migration topics-governance procedures, for large and small organizations and collectives-design and implementation of change-based campaign strategies, including international litigation and advocacy, -facilitation of workshops and dialogues focused on human rights.When she takes a break from working on fulfilling her purpose, you can find her dancing (a big self-care practice for her) or planning her next trip -- Elina loves to be on the road as a way to expand her understanding of the world.

Youth Delegate Of The Dominican Republic To The Unesco
Similar to the Youth Delegate to the UN programme, youth delegates of the Dominican Republic to the UNESCO engage in a two-year mandate as a voice of the Dominican youth in this international fora. Youth Delegates attend the UNESCO Youth Forum, in which they exchange with other young leaders and government officials of all the Member States. The 2015-2017 Youth Delegate was chosen from more than 500 viable candidates in the Dominican Republic. During my mandate, I was chosen as the spokeswoman/representative of the Education Working Group for the general assembly of the Youth Forum, from among 150 other youth representatives. Being the only Spanish-speaking Latin American woman in a group of 10 representatives, I promoted the use of our maternal languages and not only English during the works of the conference, to ensure inclusiveness of many other participants. I also collaborated with other fellow women representatives to ensure gender equality during the conference.
