Under the direction of Dr. Bernhard Palsson, develop and implement automated laboratory workflows for bacterial evolution at the Systems Biology Research Group. Current projects are primarily focused on the addition of new hardware and software capabilities to a series of Tecan liquid handling robots.

Performed independent research into how hypoxic, acidic, and basic conditions impact the adaptation of E. coli to minimal media.

Independently ran experiments for researchers in the lab, and assisted in data analysis and manuscript creation. Maintained and upgraded laboratory processes and equipment. Primary responsibilities included:-Maintenance and operation of Tecan liquid handling robots and related software, utilized for long term bacterial evolution experiments. Coordinated third party repairs when necessary, ensuring low downtime on the devices.-Extraction and analysis of the resulting data from evolution experiments on the automated platform. Prepared figures and assisted in manuscript writing.-Primary operation of an Agilent 1260 series HPLC. Developed simple isocratic methods for the determination of organic acids and carbohydrates. Qualified the machine for use and performed necessary repairs.-Maintenance of various other pieces of laboratory equipment. These included pH meters, dishwashers, computers, and bio-safety cabinets. Coordinated repairs for said devices when necessary. -Supervision and training of undergraduate research assistants.

Assisted graduate students with their research. Initially cleaned lab-ware and prepared microbial cell culture medium, buffers, and plates in an aseptic manner. Later, performed simple experiments for more senior researchers, such as:-Illumina DNA sequencing library preparation, amplification, quantification, and pooling-Bacterial mRNA isolation and sequencing library preparation-E. coli strain characterization, including growth rate profiling and exo-metabolomics measurements via an Agilent 1200 series HPLC-Verification of lab compliance with waste disposal and safety requirements

Supervised restaurant operations at a university dining hall. Led a team of 10-15 student employees during food service and preparation periods. Ensured work was done in a timely, safe, and accurate manner. Always provided excellent service, and worked to meet all customer needs.
