The road to becoming a Masters of Science in Business Analytics student has been an exciting and unexpected journey. As an undergraduate, I struggled to find a field that best suited me. I experimented with statistics, math, and even environmental science before finding a field of study that embodied all of my past and present interests and a career path that allowed me to dive further into my newfound passions. It was during my time as an undergrad that I first discovered my affinity for data science and quantitative analysis through various math, statistics, and programming courses. I first gained exposure to hands-on quantitative research through my initiation of a mathematical research study. Our study aimed to model the spread of stimulant addiction across college campuses and took inspiration from existing models that predict the spread of disease. This project was my first real experience in quantitative analysis and was instrumental in my eventual decision to pursue business analytics. Another impactful stop on the journey to the MSBA program was my summer internship at Pfizer. I had the opportunity to work alongside pharmaceutical industry veterans, talented interns, and many data scientists and statisticians. I was able to explore various career options and get a glimpse of what statisticians and data scientists do at Pfizer, both on the commercial and clinical fronts. Seeing the day-to-day of analysts at a prominent company like Pfizer reaffirmed my decision to pursue data analytics and my strong desire to work in New York City.As for next steps, I aim to not only finish the Wisconsin School of Business MSBA program but excel in all of my courses. I additionally hope to work as an analyst in New York and climb the ranks at a prominent company. Although I can’t be certain what the future holds, I know I will carry my core values with me wherever I go. I will always learn as much as I can, treat others with respect and dignity, and embark on my career with the ambition, drive, and grace crucial for success in today’s competitive job market.
