Elisa Pierandrei is a professional journalist with international experience, and also an author. From 2003 until 2008, she worked as a staff journalist for the Italian news agency Adnkronos International in Rome. She has then moved to Milan, where she currently lives. More recently, her articles have appeared in the magazines of La Repubblica (d/dLui and Il venerdì), as well as online on AJEnglish, Contemporary And (C&), Al-Monitor, and The New Arab. Publication highlights include the series of ebooks 'Urban Cairo. La Primavera araba dei graffiti' (InformAnt | eBook Quotidiani editore, 2012 and 2014) and 'Painting, Photography, Drawing. From Africa and Its Diaspora' (2022); and also her most recent essay “Photography and Heritage: Van Leo Black and White Studio Portraits, 1940s-1970s” in I.S. MED. 2/2023 (Mimesis International). She has extensively lived and travelled across the Arab region, and reported for various media on the wave of protests termed the 'Arab Spring'. Elisa Pierandrei co-authored, in collaboration with the photographer Loris Savino and the videomaker Marco di Noia, the 2011 short documentary “M.A.R.E., storie di Mediterraneo, arabi, rivolte ed Europa,” about the mutated political situation along the borders of three countries of the Mare Nostrum, linked by a common destiny. She holds a master's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the American University in Cairo (2002) after graduating in Arabic language and literature from Ca' Foscari University of Venice (1998).Elisa Pierandrei is also engaged in academic activities in collaboration with various institutions, such as the Middle East Studies Association MESA, the University of Urbino School of Journalism (from 2021 until 2023), and the University of Milan La Statale (from 2009 until 2020).
