About Elisabeth Bowman

I am a Reader in Geomechanics at the University of Sheffield and Chartered Member of the ICE, UK. With an emphasis on soil laboratory testing and geotechnical physical modelling, my research focuses on soil-water-structure problems towards the reduction of geotechnical risk. Particular interests include understanding and mitigation of internal erosion in embankments, dams and levees, the provenance of leakage and failure in buried utility pipes, and the development and mitigation of rapid landslides.Methods include advanced element testing and development. geotechnical centrifuge and 1g physical modelling & transparent soil (refractive index matching) techniques.
