Temple MIS Alum '21. "Push buttons until something works," was my philosophy as a child. If I could tinker with an object long enough, I would always figure out its intricacies. I suppose that should've been the first sign that I'd enjoy web development. Of course as an adult, I've learned to apply knowledge before I start "pushing buttons," but the challenges that present themselves are something I expect and enjoy. What I never predicted is a passion for user experience design. After taking the required MIS course on the subject, I became an Iterim Technology Assistant for two semesters. It was really important to me to convey not only the concepts, but why these practices are crucial to ever single product or website. Now whenever I look at a product or website I can't help but break down the strengths and areas for improvement against these fundamental principals. However, it's not all about the final product, I often ponder about the decisions that were made. What were the initial goals, and how did these goals change along the time of development? What kind of research was conducted, and what was done to ensure the research was going to yield useful data? What kind of budget and time constraints were designers working with? I see user experience design as an iterative process, not a single set of principals or a one-size-fits-all solution. Everyone deserves accessible, intuitive design. There's no reason to clutter the world with frustration. This passion keeps me pushing to learn and grow, and I want to utilize this skillset to improve the functionality of everything I can.
