I'm working at the marine observation center in the framework of the Lifewatch project. We collect long term data series on various biological components of the marine environment through sensor networks and monthly sampling campaigns. These data series are made available for the general public. The echolocation of marine mammals is used to track their presence and distribution across the Belgian part of the North Sea. I am a PhD student at Ghent University, section Marine Biology in close collaboration with the Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research (ILVO), the acoustics department INTEC of Ghent University and the Management Unit of the North Sea Mathematical Models (MUMM). In general, I work on the impact of anthropogenic generated underwater noise on the early life stages of marine fish. More specific, I take the installation and operation of offshore wind farms in the Belgian part of the North Sea as a case study. This is achieved by conducting both field and lab experiments.This study is funded by the agency for innovation by technology and science (IWT).

My master thesis at Ghent University focused on "The Early Life History of the Clam Macoma balthica in a High CO2 World", which was published by PLOS ONE.
