As an applications engineer in the glass fiber optic industry for the last 5 years, I have enjoyed learning about a lesser-known technology, sharing about this technology with the medical and industrial industries, and communicating customers’ needs internally throughout the product lifecycle. Now, I am looking forward to opportunities more focused on the product review/documentation or project/program management of the product realization process while, nevertheless, maintaining strong advocacy for the customers’ needs and requirements. Here are some skills & experiences I bring to the table:UNDERSTANDING PROJECT GOALS & REQUIREMENTSA large portion of my role as an applications engineer was to understand our customers’ technology at a high level. This enhanced my ability to assess a customer’s needs (both technical specifications and project constraints), to suggest/evaluate solutions based on the details that mattered to them, and then to translate & communicate the customers’ requirements to the internal team. COORDINATING CROSS-FUNCTIONAL TEAMSWorking on projects across functions, and sometimes across time zones and even continents, was one of my favorite parts of being an applications engineer. I enjoyed gaining insight into each team member’s strengths (in addition to their role) and facilitating the synergism of the group in order to meet the project objectives. This led to my interest in project/program management where I look forward to further developing this skill. TECHNICAL WRITING & COMMUNICATIONMy former role gave me the opportunity to sharpen my writing skills for marketing/training content, but these skills also proved useful in coordinating projects as well. Taking the time to clarify definitions and terminology, regardless of project stage, was always worth the investment.I’m eager to connect with individuals in the engineering space to explore new opportunities. Let’s collaborate and see what we can accomplish together!
