My research is rooted in environmental and analytical chemistry of aquatic enzymes, natural toxins, and micropollutants. My work is rooted in environmental and analytical chemistry of aquatic enzymes, natural toxins, and micropollutants. I investigate the environmental behavior of these molecules to define the exposure side of human and ecological risk assessment. Specifically, my research focusses on the occurrence and persistence of these bioactive substances in surface waters. My group has built an expertise for analytical solutions to study site-specific damage of biomolecules of varied complexity and for environmental transformation processes. My aim is to elucidate how long-lived these biomolecules are in aquatic systems and which transformation products are formed with a particular focus on photochemical and enzymatic processes.

During my time as post doctoral researcher at ETH, I expanded my environmental science expertise: I focused on mechanistic processes to understand sunlight-mediated transformation reactions of organic molecules in the environment.

My research involved sediment remediation, in situ treatments, activated carbon amendments, and effects in benthic invertebrates. Most of the research was conducted at the Natural History Museum in London, UK, Department of Zoology.Besides the scientific research, my work involved managing the progress and financial reporting of project and communication of scientific results at conferences and round table discussion to industrial and governmental stakeholders.
