As the Pioneer Leadership Developer in Great Books and Shared Inquiry in China, Dr. Montgomery organizes professional development training for all teachers in every public and private school in the Nanshan District. She founded the Nanshan Teacher Great Books Training Center in 2014 in the Southern University of Science and Technology Elementary School No. 1 to support training and practice with the Shared Inquiry method. Since its opening, hundreds of teachers have been trained and continue to attend regular Great Books meetings and discussions, as well as a monthly reading club.The Shenzhen Nanshan District Education Bureau uses the Shared Inquiry method to guide its annual Dragon & Eagle Dialogues, with 2020 marking the event’s tenth year. The event, together with the Shared Inquiry method, has been more and more popular not only with public schools but also with international schools in the Nanshan District.The readings are from literature in humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and integrated studies. All discussions were led by teachers who have been trained in the Shared Inquiry method of teaching and learning by the Great Books Foundation.

In the 1980s, Montgomery developed the story and initial funding for Jane Addams and the Women of Hull-House (1986) starring Ellen Burstyn and produced by WTTW. Montgomery also wrote and produced Rites of Passage, a story about youth offenders in Chicago.Montgomery then made films in Colombia, South America, Nuestro Modo De Ser (1987) (Our Way of Being) about the history of Caja and Social Workers Movement. Aired in on Colombian TV.That same year Montgomery produced Armero, Night of Ashes, an art/theatre documentary about the survivors of Colombia's volcanic explosion that wiped out the mountain city of Armero. The film premiered at the Chicago Latino Film Festival in 1987.Montgomery led teen groups in Woodlawn to video-document their lives in a series called The Future Within funded by the Illinois Humanities and Arts Councils. She then produced Presente! For the Challenge of Literacy, a feature documentary for a state-wide community-based educational series supporting adult bilingual education and funded by the Secretary of the State of Illinois Pete Wilson.From 1990 to 1992, Montgomery worked as a Field Producer for KTVU2 Bay Area covering business, politics, and the economy on a television show hosted by Brian Bandmiller, one of the nation’s most respected broadcast journalists.Employed by the Nanshan Education Bureau in Shenzhen, Montgomery produced several documentaries (2010-2017) as part of her InterLangua series.
