EPOS (EuropeanPlateObservingSystem) is a long-term plan aiming at creating a pan-European infrastructure for solid Earth science.As Project Coordinator for the Thematic Core Service Multi-scale laboratories I am responsible for the day to day management of the development of services that the solid Earth Science laboratories community will deliver within the EPOS programme. I am working in a team that includes Earth scientists, legal, data-management and IT specialists across Europe.

Marie Curie PhD candidate at the Faculty of Earth Sciences of Utrecht University. During my PhD I studied intra-plate deformation and the geodynamic evolution of mountain belts using analogue modelling. These physical models made of sand and silicon putties are a good technique to investigate at small scale and time geological processes that occurs at big scale and millions of years. The project is part of a European Initial Training Network (ITN) named TOPOMOD that includes 14 PhDs and 2 PostDoc in a consortium of several European universities and industry partners. We all contribute to the understanding of how Earth topography is created. Being part of such an international network gave me the opportunity to develop a very open attitude to different cultures and a varied working environment. I had the chance to attend many courses around Europe, and present the results of my research at international conferences.

I completed a four months internship at TNO during my master program with a grant by the European Commission under the frame of the Erasmus Placement Program.I worked in the "Basin Modelling Group" and produced a model of heat flow distribution for the Terschelling Basin and Southern Dutch Central Graben (The Netherlands) processing well-data with Schlumberger PetroMod software. The research subject was new with respect to my structural geology background and gave me the opportunity to demonstrate and strengthen my adaptability and fast-learning attitude.Living and working in a foreign country has been a great life experience, that contributed to the future decision of pursuing a PhD abroad.
