Esperanza Juvenil helps academically motivated children and youth rise above disadvantaged backgrounds and become successful in college and beyond. Through its residential homes and schools, Esperanza Juvenil's goal is to develop young people who are physically, emotionally and academically prepared for post-secondary education and a productive life, breaking the cycle of poverty. I advised their leadership team on organizing their processes for collecting and recording data and automating some of their data analysis. My goal was to save their leadership team members valuable time and enable them to more easily understand what is going on with their students so they can intervene where needed.

During my 5+ years at KIPP Bay Area Public Schools, the organization more than doubled the number of schools it operated and the number of students served. My core responsibilities included:-Management: Set the direction and culture for a team of five data engineers and analysts, motivating them to empower KIPP Bay Area’s educators and staff through the use of data -Change management: Worked with the executive team and school leaders across 17 schools to standardize our data systems and processes, allowing us to better identify and share best practices- Data access: Created a centralized, self-service data portal housing all KIPP Bay Area’s student, school and organization level data- Data analysis: Broadened the scope of KIPP Bay Area’s data analysis to include all areas of student, teacher and alumni data- Progress monitoring: Worked with the executive team on setting rigorous but achievable goals for each school, with a clear process for progress monitoring- Survey strategy: Oversaw all student, family and staff surveys, determining the timing and content and analyzing the results- Investing for scalability: Transitioned our data infrastructure to allow for flexibility and cost efficiency

-Founded the KIPP Bay Area Tech team to support KIPP Bay Area’s use of technology as a tool to support personalized learning -Oversaw KIPP Bay Area’s managed services provider, greatly improving the service received-Upgraded and standardized the technology infrastructure across all KIPP Bay Area schools, establishing Internet stability and reliability -Instituted processes and systems for managing student and staff devices-Renegotiated all equipment and service vendor contracts; spearheaded annual multimillion dollar government funding requests
