After completing my MPH program at the University of Texas Health Science Center (Houston), I joined the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness, and Safety at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center/Baylor College of Medicine as a research assistant, working under the Director of the Healthy Policy, Quality, and Informatics program. For five years, I worked on and eventually managed research projects at the intersection of health IT, informatics, patient safety, and quality, with a focus on Electronic Health Record (EHR) safety. While in this role, I also obtained a Graduate Certificate in Informatics from the University of Texas School of Biomedical Informatics, solidifying my interest in EHR safety research. Prior to joining the Department of Biomedical Informatics at VUMC, I worked for 2.5 years as the project manager for the Software Quality Oversight Organization contracted by an outpatient EHR vendor company. In this role, I managed a related set of patient safety, certification, and software quality-focused auditing projects. Now, as the Director of Operations for the Vanderbilt Clinical Informatics Center (VCLIC) I am tasked with organizing, facilitating, and executing educational programs, training events, research and evaluation projects, and several other initiatives meant to improve the safety and effectiveness of VUMC's clinical information systems and user experience related to these systems.
