The government and crime reporter is responsible for maintaining close relationships with area officials including local police chiefs, sheriffs, detectives, city managers and council members. The reporter regularly attends council meetings and other government functions. As the Duncan Banner is a small, community newspaper, the reporter also performed other tasks such as writing obituaries, paginating using Quark and updating the website and Facebook as well as providing photos and features for both the daily newspaper and quarterly magazine.
