In Fall of 2022, I became a certified facilitator (200RYT) of trauma-informed Kundalini Yoga & Meditation, as taught by Yoga Farm Ithaca. As a spaceholder, I specialize in guiding students to ground deeply in their bodies, clear stuck energy, recalibrate the nervous system, and experience an overall sense of calm, spaciousness, and expansion in body, mind, heart, and soul. My classes feature an emphasis on breathwork, meditative movement, spinal stretches, and guided meditation, and my overall mission in this work is to hold space for healing, growth, transformation, and empowerment through exploration & discovery of the skin we are in and the deep space within. My writing journey has been up, down, and all over as far as publications and paid jobs go: a magazine writing internship during my senior year of college that morphed into my first post-grad publishing job as a writer in NYC. Several years spent focused on songwriting once I started playing guitar and turning poetry into song in 2006. A student essay published in Conservation Magazine in 1992 and an essay published in an anthology of female writers in 2013. A corporate job as on-staff writer for GoodTherapy.org, a holistic therapy website based in Olympia, Washington, where several articles on topics of interest to those in the field of psychotherapy were published under the byline "Elise Curtin." A stint as a travel writer for Sierra County Tourism in New Mexico. A slew of scattered freelance assignments... Currently at work on a handful of writing projects. Also recording and producing original songs with songwriting duo Desert Milk... Beginning with a post-graduate internship that turned into my first job out of college as a magazine writer and editorial assistant, I've been exploring the world of online* and print publishing for nearly 20 years, first in a full-time capacity and then on my own as a freelancer. For the past several years, I've focused my editorial eye on combing through and cleaning up book manuscripts in electronic and hardcopy format, as well as audio transcripts and website content. This has meant hours spent poring over line after line of a wide range of nonfiction content, from business, finance, career prep, and biographies to how-to, memoir, self-improvement, health and wellness, and psychology, philosophy & metaphysics, among others. I've also spent a good deal of time proofreading and formatting online educational courses for a Manhattan-based publishing company. For large and small publishing houses as well as private clients, my role as manuscript editor ranges from complete overhaul and revision of content and narrative flow to thorough copyediting and proofreading at all stages of production. Additionally, I have ample experience editing and proofreading marketing brochures, promotional materials, online articles, and educational courses.
