I serve micro and small enterprises in the NY/NJ metro area by sourcing, selling, packaging and analyzing small business loans up to $50,000. I also develop and manage relationships with other community organizations and banks so that we can refer clients to each other and collectively serve the most pressing needs of the small business population.One of my responsibilities at ACCION USA is also to manage the Green Cart Loan program, an initiative funded by the City of New York to put fresh produce carts in underserved neighborhoods.

Nicaragua

I applied for 501(c)(3) status for Water for Waslala, which raises funds and organizes communities to build sustainable water systems in rural Nicaragua. I helped plan a two-week trip to evaluate the impacts of the systems and interview beneficiaries, and am currently advising on a process for choosing communities for implementation and measuring the systems' impacts on welfare.

I work on financial modeling and fundraising for the Global Microfinance Equity Fund. I have revised our fund's financial model, adapted it to suit a new proposed fund, and worked on updating our equity valuation process. Grassroots is a very small team and I collaborate with all levels of management, frequently extending a helping hand to other aspects of the business when needed. I also recently completed a report on the impact of the global economic crisis on our model and the general investment case for microfinance.

Chennai Area, India

I conducted field interviews with rural farmers to inform the design of an agricultural loan product. I also set up the procedure for a randomized impact evaluation of this loan product to consist of baseline surveys of 6,000 treatment and control households. I constructed this project to suit the needs of my U.S. based research team, a local bank building a rural credit scoring model, and my survey team of locals.

I worked in the Financial Structure section on multiple projects involving banking competition. Notably, I estimated regressions and model variations for two studies on consumer payment method choice, one of which was published in a respected trade journal. I also co-authored a study with two colleagues on credit union competitive strategies.
