She worked directly under my supervision so I was able to learn much about Elise and her aspirations to assure that human rights are first and organizations achieve their mission. Highly competent, committed and good-humoured individual, she came to Amnesty International in order to learn more about the practical working of an NGO in a developing country. During her term I assigned her to: • Coordination of the “Torture on war on terror” campaign. • Co-coordinate the Mexico Specialist Country program. • Support of Activism/Planning liaison team. Also, she took personal responsibility to organize and launch an special program of events, under the name of “Spring of Human Rights” which has been left ready as she departs. On all her assignments she worked with dedication and efficiency. Having worked with Elise side-by-side in so many and serious responsibilities involving some risky decisions has been extremely rewarding. In all these endeavours, she worked diligently mainly with internal contacts, external agents, staff, volunteers and human rights activists in Santiago. She served us with diligence, rigour and excellent judgement and articulation, and worked at all circumstances with enthusiasm, tact and cheerfulness. Her planning, communications, and use of Spanish language skills (already excellent) improved greatly during her internship. Elise is a team player and worked very well as part of an international team, was able to take part in many external activities, which helped to complete her experience in Chile. Through her work, she came to confront the harsh (and sometimes discouraging) realities that human rights advocates confront on a daily basis as she researched and worked with others. Through her time with us, I saw that Elise had gained an in-depth understanding of human rights advocacy and the work on an NGO, which may help her in the future. In her work, Elise is consistent, dedicated, and very pleasant to work with. She had incredible energy and a positive attitude in every aspect of her work. She became increasingly motivated in her work and was able to manage the tasks of her project and obligations to the organization. In conclusion, I would strongly and without any reservations recommend Elise Vallade for any position of work, advocacy, or any other capacity in which she can spread to others her excitement and talents in the art of helping others. She will be a wonderful addition to any organization, for her dedication, knowledge, hard work and skills, but I might add, more importantly, her ability to relate to individuals at a level that I find quite uncommon."
