Marshall Springs School | September 2017 - June 2023Woodman School | September 2008 - June 2017As Learning Leader I worked as a member of the administrative team to facilitate the day-to-day operations of the school and facilitate the actions of our staff team.As the Health and Physical Education (HPE) Learning Leader my roles included the facilitation of planning and implementation of the philosophy and structure of the HPE Program and overseeing the day-to-day operation of the HPE program (planning processes, highlighting curricular considerations, guiding purposeful task and resource development, facilitation of PLC and curricular meetings, budgeting, equipment ordering, scheduling, etcetera). As a professional and a Learning Leader, I sought out Physical and Health Education professional development opportunities and shared information regarding current education best practice with the HPE team. A most recent area of focus have included the facilitation of a common understanding of HPE curricular concepts and assessment practices, encouraging a collaborative planning process to create purposeful tasks that target specific curricular outcomes, implementing an inquiry-based model for teaching Physical Education that provide time on task for all students and highlighting transferable skills from one activity to another (to develop physical literacy).

The Annual Alberta and North West Territories Royal Canadian Legion Track and Field Camp and Competition provides athletes a week long opportunity to train and compete for a spot on Team Alberta to compete at the National Royal Canadian Legion Competition. In the position of head throw coach I was responsible for the planning and implementation of the throws component of this camp and aiding in selection of the members of the Alberta/NWT team.

This position included the coordination and coaching of the Dino Youth Elementary and Junior High Track and Field Programs. This introductory track and field programs followed a Run, Jump Throw multi-event approach. This program was structured to to teach the participants the fundamental movement skills of running, jumping and throwing in a developmentally appropriate manner utilizing progressions, modifications and games .

This program ran for the months of May and June in selected CBE schools. This was an exceptional introductory experience to teaching. I was able to take the lead in instruction, to observe the differences and similarities of students throughout the city and provided the opportunity to be creative and adapt lessons to the resources available at the individual schools.
