Planning and conducting structural and environmental road inspections, deactivation prescriptions and map creations for forest service roads in the West Kootenay and Boundary region. Supervision of contractors, machine operators, and students in maintenance operations related to environmental and structural road issues while using a multitude of mapping and data applications. While experiencing backcountry and forest service road navigation with the operation of ATVs and trucks, all aspects of safety are identified, applied and resolved such as risk assessment, response preventions, wildlife safety, and personal health and protection

Conducted various tasks involved in forestry development such as block layout, planning, road design, timber surveys, forest and riparian protection areas, danger tree assessments, forest buffer identification, and species identification. Followed all objectives established by the Haida Nation through the Land Use Orders, Forest Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, and Wildlife Act. Gained experience in backcountry navigation through challenging terrain in various weather situations in a remote camp environment. Lead team member for conducting stream and riparian habitat assessments and data collection, as well as writing the riparian assessment reports for each work site. Conducted fish sampling in all work sites as well as assisted Archeologists and Biologists in area assessments of the work sites. Experienced digital data collection in the field and the office including GPS units, Hypsometers, tablets, computers, and GIS programs. Travelled to work sites in boats, helicopters, ATV’s and trucks and also preformed efficient backcountry navigation through reconnaissance related tasks.

Worked at various Lower Mainland fish plants and custom offloading sites, providing communication to fisheries managers, fisheries officers, vessel crews, industry representatives, and fish plant workers. Recorded data, results, and occurrences regarding the fishery, as well as obtained samples and monitored the landing of fish during offloading. Designated as a Dockside Observer with the Department of Fisheries and J.O Thomas and Associates for three years.

Spoke with visitors at provincial parks and campsites, youth at summer camps and other locations. Conducted surveys for aquatic invasive species in key locations identified by experts. Assisted in the development of suitable outreach materials focusing on aquatic invasive species. Circulated information on aquatic invasive species to recreational boaters. Prepared reports and assisted in interpretive program development.
