A diverse and skilled professional with decades of experience crossing boundaries from academia, journalism, music performance, writing (20 years for the Globe and Mail), editing, arts administration and environmental stewardship. I've taught in the music departments of the University of British Columbia, University of New England (Australia), and the University of Victoria, and have made commercial recordings and numerous radio and TV broadcasts with The Tafelmusik Orchestra and my own chamber groups, featuring both newly composed and early music. Current projects include a book in progress (Shared Circuits; Reflections on Music, Birdsong, Mind, Myth and Emotion) and lead coordinator for a conservation project on Salt Spring Island.

Environmental Conservation Project LeadSelf-Employed 2019 - PresentSaltspring Island, British Columbia, CanadaAs project lead, I am spearheading the effort to preserve a unique piece of pristine Coastal Douglas fir forest and wetland on Salt Spring Island, BC, one of the beautiful Gulf Islands. This property embraces a number of endangered ecosystems, and is home to several species at risk, including red legged frog and yellow montane violets. I have been leading communication outreach, fund raising efforts, and coordination with experts including local biologists, wetland restoration specialists and other technical collaborators, and have now secured partnerships with the Salt Spring Island Conservancy and The Land Conservancy of British Columbia in a joint campaign to purchase this property. I welcome your interest in the project.
