Hosted by the Ministry of Education of Timor-Leste to support youth mental health and inclusive education.

Lines for Life is working to prevent substance abuse and suicide. Services include intervention, prevention and advocacy initiatives that promote mental health for all and provides tailored services and volunteer peer support including for teens, veterans and seniors. I design and develop data collection and program evaluation tools for prevention programs and 24/7/365 crisis lines. I serve as co-chair of the Data and Evaluation Committee of the Oregon Alliance to Prevent Suicide.

Zimbabwe Artists Project (ZAP) is a non-profit organization founded in 1999 that buys art directly from women artists to exhibit and sell in the United States. This women's micro-enterprise fosters cultural exchange and strengthens self-sufficiency through visual story-telling. Our goal during my term is to thoughtfully and proactively choose a future course for ZAP. This organization is how I enact my longstanding commitment to ending global poverty and fighting HIV/AIDS.

Conducted literature review and exploratory/pilot qualitative study on diversity and inclusion formative experiences and how these likely connect to specific medical education competencies and professional development. Preliminary insights suggest that high contrast exposures, interpersonal skills development and small group discussions matter. This pilot highlighted some methodological approaches for measuring and cautiously interpreting highly individualized data from a small sample as further studies or interventions are planned. Advance research initiatives, community engagement, and social good with management, strategic planning and consulting support. Appointments with Empathetics, Donate Life NW, Catholic Charities of Oregon, and the Oregon Healthcare Quality Corporation. Assignments with Pro Publica, the Oregon Public Health Institute, HealthPeople and two academic medical centers.• Work to integrate patient perspectives, engage the public and advance policy that supports high quality health care.• Provide methodological advice on design and analysis of surveys, including edits to questions and reports.• Lead teams of staff and/or volunteers, and set program and communications strategy and priorities.• Coordinate partners and staff to define and align goals and scope and write fundraising requests and reports to funders.

The Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA) serves Massachusetts with a Medicare/Medicaid Duals program and an integrated payer/provider system focused on beneficiaries with the most complex medical, behavioral health and social needs. As Director of Member Experience Measurement and Improvement, I design and integrate methodological approaches (surveys, focus groups, semi-structured interviews, observation, co-design and more) to gather actionable member input and feedback. CCA is focused on delivering exceptional member experience and building provider relationships that engage and motivate members to work collaboratively to improve individual and community health outcomes.

• Manage surveys for the Consumer Reports National Research Center on topics such as: back pain, laser vision correction, hearing aids, flu vaccination, sunscreen, allergies, ADHD, diets and retailer ratings. Also conduct surveys of health providers. Conduct approximately 8 health surveys annually on a budget of over $200,000. • March 2011 Cover Story “What Doctors Wish Their Patients Knew” on doctor-patient communication was based on two health surveys: one of consumers and one of primary care doctors.• Facilitate inter-departmental conversations regarding survey topics, focus, methodology and interpretation. Respond to requests from editorial clients.• Review completeness and correctness of editorial content written from survey data and provide edits that resolve translation challenges.• Write easy-to-read explanations of survey methodology for publication on web.• Supervise PhD level project leaders who each manage the implementation of individual surveys. These 6 project leaders rotate under 3 survey managers. There may be as many as 5 health surveys in various phases of implementation at any one time. • Integrated as a manager in an established department that typically promotes from within. Direct reports included individuals with more seniority and experience than I. Involved in all personnel decisions: hiring, firing, performance review, etc.• Conducted literature review on contract for the Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) on the topic of communicating to consumers about health treatments that are NOT recommended.• Liaise with vendors contracted to program and field surveys designed by internal staff as well as expert consultants who review our surveys and analysis.• Present these activities at internal and external meetings. Designed trainings for staff.

• Manage chapter-based requests for external funds; prepare and edit proposals, triage requests, gather approvals, research appropriateness of potential funders, monitor sub-recipients, document and report on EPG process.• Administer and conduct training (i.e. on fund-finding, grant development and HIPAA) of staff and volunteers (on-line, web-ex and in-person). Kudos for 2008 Summer Staff Grant Writing Workshop included: “Best Workshop I’ve Ever Attended!” and general acclaim from participants.• Support and monitor chapter-based grants that are publicly funded through technical assistance, document preparation, fund-finding, liaison with legal and financial departments and site visits.• Shepharded $1.5 million dollar contract from the State of Tennessee through proposal preparation and clearance, telephone negotiations with funder and partners, legal contracts (prime, sub, HIPAA) and program implementation

• Integrated and clarified objectives of a gender-based HIV prevention curriculum for Bronx adolescents. Led an inter-disciplinary team of on-site and contract staff, wrote and conducted the curriculum for the video-tape internship, informed survey evaluation, supervised implementation.• Implemented a randomized controlled gender-based HIV prevention program; this included curriculum development and piloting, survey questionnaire design and piloting, literature review, administration (internal review board and federal reporting requirements), staff scheduling, and program logistics.• Contributed to Dept. of Pediatrics activities; trained/mentored students, provided project assistance, and presented findings to research group.
