The purpose of the Volunteer Sustainability Team is to strengthen Brigade sustainability & facilitate the growth of volunteerism.Our aim is to provide “at risk” Brigades with specialist support to improve their viability by the development, implementation, evaluation and review of strategies and action plans tailored to the Brigade’s needs and capacity, as well as their individual challenges (such as ageing and declining communities or transient and rapid community growth).The Volunteer Sustainability Team also supports District and Regional leadership teams by:- Identifying, analysing and prioritising areas of support required for Brigades- Capturing best practice models to improve sustainability and volunteerism growth.- Developing tools, knowledge and approaches with regard to flexible volunteering options.

• The key role of the position is helping people take responsibility for their own bushfire safety and to develop their own survival strategies.• Achievements:o Promoted and advised on the provision of bushfire information and support services through the delivery of CFA programs including Community Fireguard, Fire Ready Victoria, Bushfire Planning Workshops and other Community Safety initiatives as directed from CFA District 14.

• Achievements:o Promoted National Landcare Program.o Developed the Junior Landcare program within the schools in the catchment.o Assisted landholders and the community to plan, implement, monitor and report on on-ground Natural Resource Management projects and sustainable agriculture practices at a sub-catchment scale.o Organised meetings, flyers, posters and data entry. o Submitted grant applications for state and federal funding for environmental initiatives within the Landcare groups.

• Achievements:o Conducted educational programs and discussions for primary students, secondary students, and universities and visiting groups to the Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre. o Assisted in the development of several promotional DVD’s for Landcare Australia (Coles Supermarkets and Dilmah Tea). o Assisted with day to day activities and teaching in the infant’s room.

The Aquatic Environment Education Centre At Wonga Wetlands, Albury, Nsw

• Achievements:o Conducted educational programs and discussions for primary students, secondary students, and universities and visiting groups to the wetlands. o Discussed educational topics include Murray River flows past and present, the Albury wastewater treatment facility (reclaimed water that supplies the wetlands), wetland ecology, macro and micro invertebrates, native fauna and flora, introduced pests, past uses of the working farm and other relevant information related to the visiting group. o Conducted wetland tests with the visiting school groups to indicate the health of the wetlands. o Assisted in the organisation and running of the 2005 Grade 6 Summer School program. o Presented at the Rotary Murray Darling School of Freshwater Research on the topic of Water Quality, in both the old Murray River system and the Wonga Wetlands man-made lagoons.
