i remember almost crashing a drone into a $45,000 car.hapa was born out of a dorm room at the university of colorado boulder. i had met two friends who eventually became my business partners. we named the business hapa, a japanese word and slang. we cold emailed businesses for hours and hours until we eventually landed a local bmw dealership. we then focused on local businesses in colorado as we did not know what we were doing, which unfortunately led to hapa's demise.anyways, on the first shoot with a dealership, they handed us the keys to a relatively expensive car that no 21-year-olds should be driving. bluntly, i had a drone, crashed the drone, and the drone almost hit the car. everyone was silent for 5 minutes (my bad, guys).besides that, my fondest memory was a joint campaign that i created with hapa and asian unity (a big asian club on campus). while i was serving as a board member during my second year, george floyd was murdered, and we wanted to help in any way we could. hapa partnered up with asian unity to create, organize, and strategize the campaign. we, along with 20 other university clubs, posted on social media for 7 days in a row. we had detailed statements, credible sources, and support systems. the result of the campaign was over $15,000 in donations.(despite this, the business flopped because we didn't know what we were doing.)

my first real corporate experience, and failure. i started with astravo during the peak of covid. it was fully remote work in a role that was defined by myself and by the executives of the company. i was essentially a ‘floater’ spending a set amount of time in each sector of the company. my goal was to analyze each department for areas of improvement. i worked jobs from customer support (phone) to enrolling students and shadowing classes. while this role was a dream, this is where i made poor decisions. i would get behind on work and cut corners. this is where i realized that intentional work requires intentional people.

i had just graduated high school, and my dad had just retired and bought two boot stores in montana.so with potential student debt looming, i went to montana for a gap year to sell some boots. we had no idea how to run a store and had minimal training, it was a mess that bonded us for life. here is where i really learned how to sell, redwings are predominantly work boots so try to picture this… you work on oil rigs and massive machinery. you go to buy some new boots, and there’s this little asian teenager telling you what boots to buy for the job. i really had a tough time with this, but eventually found my stride and couldn’t be more grateful for the year i spent in hell (jk it’s beautiful just not for a twenty-something year old)
