My purpose has been to professionalize and stabilize the finance unit, create efficiencies within the business and effectively manage all financial resources and services so as to attain reliable, consistent and high standard service delivery for the business to support the attainment of corporate goals.Achievements:• Professionalization of the finance function for Kenya and Uganda e.g. upscaling of finance resources & putting in place the financial standards• Ensuring integrity of the financial data• Cost management – streamlined budget allocation and monitoring among the departments to ensure adherence to approved limits and organizational goals.Role and Responsibilities:• Budgeting and strategy formulation – including alignment of the process by adoption of budgeting templates, liaising with relevant internal teams in the Kenya and Uganda businesses to develop short, medium and long term financial plans and reporting on strategic objectives/ business performance.• Reporting and financial analysis – ensure reports are fit for purpose/ are appropriate for the users and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Timely submission of business, group, regulator and statutory reports. • Take charge of and control tax processes, computations, filings and submissions for the fund management business and respective Unit Trust products in Kenya and Uganda.• Stakeholder management – partner with the Boards of Kenya and Uganda, South African teams, other subsidiaries and leadership teams. Management of the bank’s strategic plan from planning, implementation and monitoring and set up a functional finance department to support the business. Achievements:• Development of strategic and budgeting templates – Coordinating the units to draft the strategic plan and budgets, development of budgeting templates and coordinating the management and board strategic planning sessions.• Development and streamlining of reports - Design of reporting templates for management and board reporting.• Successful roll out a business intelligence system that significantly improved reporting efficiency and performance analysis.• Successful fund raising – In 5 years, we successfully raised debt of Ksh 1 billion and share capital of Ksh 2 billion.Roles and Responsibilities:• Budgeting and strategy formulation – liaise with the Chief Executive Officer and the Board to prepare and implement the strategic and financial plans; manage and support the financial planning and budgeting process for the Bank and the business units and liquidity planning and allocation of cost/revenues across different units,• Reporting and financial analysis – oversee and coordinate statutory reporting and audit Central Bank of Kenya, revenue authorities and other relevant external parties,• Taxation – take charge of and control tax processes, computations, filings and submissions for the business and respective products,• Periodically evaluate the various performance measurement processes, suggest improvements, and proactively consider business revenue potential. I was part of the management team tasked with enhancing the growth of E&Y practice in Rwanda. During those 5 years of working in the Rwanda office assurance revenues grew from $100,000 to over $1,000,000.Roles and responsibilities:• Project management of the various client engagements to ensure achievement of planned recoveries within the time and fee budgets.
