Elizabeth "Betsy" Andersen is a non-profit leader and advocate for good governance as the foundation for a more just and sustainable world. Betsy has over twenty-five years of experience providing strategic leadership to organizations in the international law, human rights, and rule of law development fields. She currently serves as Executive Director of the World Justice Project, leading its efforts to advance the rule of law and good governance through research, advocacy, and support for a global stakeholder network. Previously, Betsy led the global development arm of the American Bar Association, the ABA Rule of Law Initiative. Earlier in her career, she served as Executive Director of the American Society of International Law and as Executive Director of the Europe and Central Asia Division of Human Rights Watch. Betsy writes and speaks frequently in global forums on the role of governance in achieving sustainable development and has been recognized for her work with several awards, including the ASIL Prominent Woman in International Law Award and a Williams College Bicentennial Medal. Betsy serves as a member of the governing and advisory boards of several non-profit organizations and is the current Chair of the Board of Trustees of Williams College.

Served as a member of the ABA’s senior management team and led its global rule of law development programs, with 600 staff, consultants, and volunteers working in 50 countries to implement $40 million annual program. Responsibilities included setting the strategic direction of ABA's global development arm; overseeing all aspects of program and operational management; public speaking and representation; fundraising from U.S. and foreign government donors, foundations, law firms, corporations, and individuals; and coordinating governance through 24-person ABA ROLI Board of Directors and 38-member ABA Board of Governors. From September 2017, also served as Associate Executive Director for Global Programs and in that capacity also oversaw the ABA’s Center for Human Rights.
