UJA-Federation of New York is participating in a national VISTA initiative -- the goal of which is to increase the capacity of communities throughout the country to meet Holocaust survivors’ increasing needs and ensure that they can live with dignity and quality of life for as long as possible. This is part of the Obama administration’s three-pronged approach to care for this population. I am currently in year two of the initiative. This year, my efforts will primarily focus on mobilizing and managing volunteers, raising awareness for the 53,000 Holocaust survivors living in poverty in New York, and creating innovative volunteer programming to assist Holocaust survivors.
