About Elizabeth Carpenter

Life really does bring you to the most unexpected places... it's all about allowing yourself to take the chance presented to you. In 2017 I took a BIG chance. I had a job I loved with coworkers I enjoyed. I was not even thinking about finding something else...and that's when it happened. My in laws approached us with an offer that we couldn't pass up. They were the owners of a Coney Island Hot Dog Restaurant, Faneek's, and they were ready to retire. They asked us if we were interested in taking over. After 8 hours of discussion we said yes!I feel as though the last two decades have prepared me for this with every up and every down. Now, I am the owner and operator (and manager and clerk and any other role that comes my way) of Faneek's Coney Island, the biggest little Coney Island restaurant in the world! We recently brought our Faneek's Coney Sauce Mix to market and have now found ourselves in nearly 50 different stores! Talk about a total 360!So if you find yourself in Fall River, MA come on by to 269 Rhode Isand Ave 🌭

French Fries (w/ a lot of variations), mozzarella sticks, fish and chips, new England clam chowder, Portuguese kale soup, and so much more!We have a very loyal customer base and wouldn't be Faneek's without them! The meaning of Faneek's is "crazy about" or "fanatic" and this is the perfect name for our restaurant. Human Resources
    Engineering Firm May 2016 - Oct 2016
    Massachusetts
I took the leap out of retail after almost 15 years. I had come to the fork in the road where it was time to make the decision, is retail management really the path I want to go down? That's when I started exploring my options and accepted a position as the Human Resources Coordinator at ARK. Being such a small mom and pop organization I also took on the role as materials procurement coordinator. Yes, I went from selling bananas to ordering equipment for cathodic protection and AC/DC Mitigation. I recently explained it like this, the best way to learn a new language is to submerse yourself into the country and learn out of pure necessity. That is just what I did and now I can speak the language of engineering, in as little as two weeks I was using the correct lingo and terminology to actually order the things I needed with the specifications I needed. It certainly was quite the learning experience but I have always been up for a challenge. Along with that I also conducted the following HR functions:o Reviewed benefit administration including:o Rewrote the organizational chart and created several new positionso Worked with the CEO to balance project work load and create a timeline for hiring to fill new positionso Rewrote job descriptions for engineer positions and created job descriptions for all administrative positionso analyzed compensation; monitors the performance evaluation program and revises as necessary.o Rewrote company handbook based on legal standards for small businesseso Performed benefits administration o Located and worked with 2 recruitment agencies to achieve proper staffingo Within the first month, recruited and hired upper level management positiono Conducted new-employee orientations for 2 new associates within the first montho Conducted bi-weekly payroll for field service team and semimonthly payroll for administrative staff
  • Stop & Shop
    Hiring Center Site Manager
    Stop & Shop Jan 2016 - Jun 2016
    Ma
As part of the contingency planning for union negotiations I was selected as the district hiring center site manager. In this role confidentiality and professionalism was a key factor.Responsible for hiring and selecting temporary replacement workers, I worked as the manager supervising two other selected individuals. This role was pivotal in our negotiating stance and ran for approx. 5 months. At one point I was running two centers and overseeing a team of four individuals. We were responsible for clearly stating expectations too applicants while keeping company information private. Clear judgement and professionalism was demonstrated when approached by union clerks, stewards, and representatives and confidentiality was kept at all times. Training of all TRWs was completed on site and payroll was manually processed weekly for all training hours.
  • Stop & Shop
    Customer Service Manager
    Stop & Shop Jan 2010 - May 2016
    Massachusetts
Moving into the Customer Service Manager role is where my passion for people flourished.I was responsible for hiring, training, mentoring, and developing part time and full time clerks. I was also responsible for making sure every guest that walked in to my building walked out happy. In doing so, I took up the practice of lead by example and saw every encounter as a teaching opportunity. I quickly became known for my customer service and training skills and was dubbed a "morale" booster. Shortly I was moved from store to store to create an environment that fostered customer service. Seeing that one broken piece was training, I proposed a centralized training class that was accepted and put in to action. With the district being so large, I created a team of 4 trainers and broke it down to North, south, east, and west. They were then given new material that focused on the importance of customer service and setting company expectations. This led to an increase in customer service throughout the district and portions of the program were soon launched throughout the region. Along with this I also became extremely involved with the community. I created relationships with community organizations and got many of the store associates involved in volunteering and community. Before this role I never could understand the meaning of the word "Passion." Now, I have discovered my passion and it is people.
  • Stop & Shop
    Perishable Manager
    Stop & Shop Jun 2005 - Jan 2010
    Various Locations, Ma And Ri
The perishable manager role is where I was able to hone in on my analytical skills. This role is all about numbers and forecasting. I learned the importance of trends... Item trends, customer trends, sales trends. Trends are what you base your business on. I built weekly projections and quarterly budgets based on trends so they are quite the important piece.Myself and a team of two others were selected to put together a summer sales contest. We selected the theme, set the criteria, selected the items, put the presentation together, and launched it to the district. We tracked and reported results weekly. Each week the district stores were putting up positive triple digit trends on the selected item.I was also able to get a great understanding of merchandising. This was my favorite piece of this position. Figuring out how to display things, where to display them, what will catch the eye of our guests. I soon got very good at it and was sharing the ideas throughout the district. I then started to take newly appointed full time clerk or "rising star" part time clerks and teach them about merchandising. This is where my passion for people all began.

Following that was file maintenance back up and then receiver. A new program was developed, The College Rotation Program, and I was encouraged to apply. I was in school for Business Management and fit all the qualifications.I was 5 out of 27 that made it through three interviews and a standardized test.At the end of this, three months before I graduated Bridgewater State College, I was offered an Assistant Store Manager position which I proudly accepted.
