I was a 2017 Knauss Fellow at the Office for Coastal Management within the National Ocean Service. In my fellowship, I focused on policy, planning, and communications. - Synthesized and framed information on programs and policies to respond to legislative and executive requests for the Office for Coastal Management.- Coordinated strategic planning effort for the National Coastal Zone Management Program.- Supported roll outs of grants programs and other announcements. - Conducted analyses of office programs and policy and share results with office leadership.

- Tracked developments in marine conservation, including in fisheries and the blue economy for this short-term appointment position. - Conducted research on how different incentive structures can motivate conservation success using case studies in a complex adaptive systems framework. - Co-authored a publication in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and a chapter in “Conservation for the Anthropocene Ocean: Interdisciplinary Science in Support of Nature and People.”- Developed materials for speaking and policy engagements, including talking points, memos, and presentations.

Marine Policy Research Assistantship: - Researched issues related to marine conservation science and policy.- Co-authored a publication in the journal Nature Geosciences on how scientists could contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.- Created materials for speeches and presentations to academic and public audiences.- Collaborated on a project identifying the status and trends of academic scientists engaging with the public and policymakers and developing recommendations.Doctoral Research Program: - Developed and carried out a research program for dissertation, including running research experiments in the field and lab.- Co-authored 5 scientific publications in journals including Bioscience and PLoS One.- Took leadership roles on two major collaborative projects: 1) assessing value of long-term ecology, and 2) identifying spatial trends in fish biodiversity off U.S. west coast.- Presented to public and educator audiences on disease outbreak in Oregon sea stars.- Taught lab courses in marine biology, introductory biology, and human anatomy and physiology.

- Coordinated over 500 volunteers for a large annual arts market run by a non-profit promoting Native American art.- Worked with the Director of Development on tasks related to a gala and other fundraising events.- Built relationships with donors, artists, and volunteers through tickets sales, soliciting auction donations, and assisting guests at events.- Executed general administrative tasks, such as answering phones, contacting artists and vendors, preparing pamphlets and other materials.

I volunteered in two lab groups at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. - In the lab of Dr. Jeff Graham, conducted lab research on mudskipper fish recovery in air and water after exercise. Assisted on a project using archived fishing magazines from California to look at changes in the size of fish caught by recreational fishing boats over time. - In the lab of Dr. Michael Latz, cultured bioluminescent dinoflagellates collected from the Scripps Pier to test a new method of culture using rice flour as a food source. - Gained experience with data entry and lab work (counting cells, changing culture media).

- Conducted research on policy on topics related to education, taxes, and campaign finance reform for a non-partisan results-oriented think tank.- Participated in meetings with state legislators to share the results of reports.- Updated and maintained donor files and assisted development team with mailings and outreach.

I provided administrative support to a non-profit focused on developing Native American arts and artists through an annual market that attracts approximately 100,000 visitors. - Assisted the development team with coordinating galas and other events. - Acted as the primary contact for vendors - Ordered all signage and promotional and printed materials for market events. - Answered phones, organized and maintained media contacts, and worked with artists on completionof forms and payments. - During the market, acted as team memeber for logistics, guest assistance, and coordination of market events.
