Chief Executive OfficerGeneration Citizen Jan 2021 - PresentGeneration Citizen (GC) envisions a country of young people working as active and effective citizens to collectively rebuild our American democracy. GC works to ensure that every student in the US receives an effective action civics education. We do this by directly engaging schools in action civics while simultaneously building the demand for the concept across the country. At Generation Citizen, we believe that an effective democracy requires equal participation from all voices and communities—a goal that we can only achieve through a shared commitment to racial and socioeconomic equity. In order to reach the ultimate goal of a more equitable democracy, in which all individuals can effectively use their voices to make a difference, civics education must explicitly address the political and social marginalization from the formal democratic process that specific communities have faced. -
Executive DirectorTakeroot Justice Sep 2018 - Nov 2020NycTakeRoot Justice provides legal services, participatory research assistance and policy support to our community-based partners in social justice movements. We use these tools to reimagine how grassroots and community groups — who power social movements — achieve long-lasting systemic change. TakeRoot Justice was started in 2001 as the Community Development Project of the Urban Justice Center. As the founding Executive Director, I led our process to become an independent organization, recruited a committed and talented Board of Directors, new staff and engaged new partners and supporters. -
