I have just started my first year at UNB in the Bachelor of Science program. I applied to this program as a starting point on my path to becoming a pharmacist. I am interested in this field because I see the role of pharmacists developing in the future as there is a shortage of physicians and pharmacist will be utilize more in our health care system. I believe pharmacists will be well positioned to support optimal health for patients and assist those whose health is not so optimal. I have worked in a pharmacy as a pharmacy assistant for the past two summers which has helped me learn how a pharmacy works and see firsthand how pharmacists play a front-line role in healthcare. I have learned about the uses of many medications as well as their adverse effects and drug interactions. I will continue to work in a pharmacy throughout my studies, but I realize this will not be enough to prepare me entirely. I plan to major in biochemistry as this prerequisite will provide me with a solid foundation prior to pharmacist school. I will work to developed good communication skills which will not only help me as a pharmacist, but in all areas of life and socialization. And I will continue to learn from my own life experiences the compassion, empathy and sympathy required to be the best pharmacist I can be.
