My illustrations are imaginative, quirky, and tend to involve animals and nature. I try to draw from experience or emotion, by using animals as characters. Animals tend to add a new dimension to the work, and you can tie them to certain emotions and people. I treat my work as a kind of cheap therapy, helping me deal with the things that get me down or make me really irritated. I try to add humor into most of my work, as most stuff in life is usually pretty funny, like animals in Cosby sweaters. I want my designs to look effortless--but complete with minimal lines. I do not like to make anything realistic but rather slightly construed. I rarely, if ever, use color in my illustration. I feel like it takes away from the art itself. As a plush creator, I take the approach of ‘never make the same thing twice’ and you can never mess up. Each piece is uniquely its own. Most of the creatures come from my illustrations. I want each one to come to life, be loved and cuddled! My love of the sea is where I get most of my inspiration for plushies.
