I oversee development, communications, volunteering and other duties as assigned and appropriate to help set direction and ensure the longevity of House of Ruth. In this role, I work with the senior management team, board, and staff to refine the organization’s vision and direction. I also plan and implement strategies to secure donors and contributions in support of the organization, provide oversight of the fund development program, monitor communications activities, nourish and grow a robust volunteer program, and address issues that may hamper growth and success.

Fundraise and grow donor base of organization dedicated to transforming the lives of homeless and abused women and children. Successfully oversaw House of Ruth's first capital campaign, raising $7 million in 2 years to rebuild Kidspace, our therapeutic childcare center in Ward 7. Create corporate donor campaign and strategy; increase giving by 10% of dollars and 15% of donors in first year. Start a volunteer program to connect teachers, chefs and more with our clients. Manage three full-time staff and an intern--as well as all aspects of fundraising at House of Ruth, from government grant applications to direct mail, website and social media. Oversee all communications for House of Ruth

Lead staff management, operations and fundraising for 40 staff, $5.8 million budget, 17,000+ individual member organization. Collaborated and successfully executed merger with statewide organization, Washington Bikes, which expanded Cascade's mission statewide while healing historic rifts in Puget Sound biking community. Transitioned Cascade from a 501(c)4 to a 501(c)3 organization. Fundraised a successful $2M capital campaign and finished two phases of ambitious construction process to move organization from long-time headquarters into bold, visionary new Cascade Bicycling Center. Raised $650K in first year on the job; many individual donations exceeded past gifts by 80% or more. Created new 2016 strategic plan for c(3) and c(4) organizations; second successful collaborative strategic plan in three years. The 2014 strategic plan was the first for Cascade in 11 years; three prior attempts had failed. Collaborative process included all staff and board members and is considered a huge success. Strategic plans become living documents, incorporated into each staff member's work plan. Increased budget of organization through fundraising, increased event sponsorships, and careful price increases. During my three-year tenure, budget increased 30 percent. Built a collaborative approach with organizations throughout the Puget Sound; clarified roles and deepened connections with organizations, and partners. Helped revolutionize Seattle's transportation network through collaboration and advocacy with local and regional politicians; partner organizations and Cascade members. Instrumental in creating impetus for new protected bike lanes downtown and building bridges to complete other bike projects on time and with consensus.

Led operations and fundraising for 14 staff, $2.7 million individual member association.Established Financial Stability• Managed all aspects of association finances; wrote and met aggressive budgets. • Transformed a 2011 $90,000 loss to a 2012 $300,000 gain through leadership and fundraising. • Created and led a major donor fundraising program, from $20,000 in 2010 to $550,000 in 2012. Built a Strong, Committed Team• Oversaw association staff—hired employees, set salaries, gave reviews and handled separations. • Created review system where employees and managers worked together to set annual goals. • Acted as catalyst to create new database, brand, website and magazine change in late 2012. • Created, wrote and oversaw League response to massive new federal transportation bill. Strengthened External Relationships• Negotiated with Kimberly-Clark; outcome is that League will lead the National Bike Challenge. • Built partnership with REI that led to new program application. • Created personal relationships with major donors and successfully asked them for funding. • Participated in select association merger group; worked on financial taskforce. • Served as main liaison between staff and board, reaching out quarterly to each board member.

Promoted to Vice President of the League and led financial turnaround.Financial Leadership• Wrote RFP and hired new auditors; implemented changes to produce clean audits. • Hired new membership vendors leading to $100,000 in annual savings.• Researched and selected new health care plan; saved the League 20 percent annually. Marketing, Communications and Membership Oversight• Led overhaul of Bicycle Friendly America program; simplified and clarified the process. • Ensured membership growth continued despite economic downturn. • Transformed League’s Charity Navigator ranking from two-star to four-star.

Re-launched and redesigned all communications for 130-year old advocacy organization. Communications Overhaul• Launched completely new website and started blog. Created easy-to-use join and donate forms.• Changed staid, quarterly, staff-led magazine to energetic, bimonthly, member-led publication.• Created, wrote and oversaw development of the inaugural, 64-page yearbook in six weeks.• Overhauled all materials and implemented standardized style. Served as national spokesperson.

Reenergized magazine, website and overall look of 5,000-member trade association.Rebranded NPMA• Transformed Members Only magazine into Pest World and changed name of annual convention. • Redesigned website and e-newsletter and produced content for both. Managed Staff and Sales• Traveled with senior team; negotiated contracts with sponsors. Increased ad sales. • Stepped up and led the $100,000 retail sales Bug Store, from ordering materials to hiring staff.Launched Quality Pro• First director of quality standard program; spoke about program at events across U.S. • Created materials, participated in content requirements and set standards.

First director of publications for new trade association created from merger of two organizations. Editorial Content & Production• Created look, feel and content for bi-monthly magazine, and managed launch in four months. • Edited, produced and wrote one weekly and five bi-weekly e-newsletters. • Hired and managed a staff designer, staff writer and editorial assistant. International Trade Show • Participated in creation and execution of new trade show brand—AAPEX. • Coordinated marketing materials, production and look of association booth at trade show.

Wrote, edited and produced 12 quarterly newsletters and directories for association management firm.
