From the time I was seven years old I have been fascinated with the past and trying to understand it. I am passionate about helping people to learn in new ways, specifically using the arts as an avenue for education. My goal is to find ways to make history accessible and enjoyable for wide audiences. I believe that one of the best ways to convey history is by finding the continuity throughout history. In my undergraduate dissertation, this idea comes in as I examine the writings of Renaissance humanist, Francesco Petrarca, looking relationship between ancient and Christian sources. I love working in historic sites and museums, where history is visible to the public. I have worked at historic houses in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia giving tours, as well as doing behind-the-scenes archival work. In the summer of 2019, I was fortunate enough to work on an archaeological dig in Pompeii, offering firsthand experience in the interpretation of material culture and how it is used to tell historians about the past. Growing up as a dancer has fostered my love for the arts; something I have brought into my research. I enjoy looking at the social aspect of art and how it both shapes and reflects the values of past societies. The arts can help to make stories from the past more relevant to contemporary society. Dancing has also helped my to develop my communication skills, as I learn how to convey ideas in different ways to make them accessible to a variety of audiences. I am very involved in the dance community, where I coach the Mount Allison Ballet team, and taught for the Swing Dance Society for three years.
