The Director of Health & Safety serves as a highly visible, energetic champion of health, safety and security at WLF. This role is a key contributor in developing comprehensive programs to limit risk to employee safety and security and is responsible for the management of all safety operations at the facilities. As a senior leader of the company, I was called upon to support West Liberty Foods’ corporate game plan through leading project management, continuous improvement and strategic planning.

The Corporate EHS Manager ensured compliance with all environmental laws and regulations throughout all of the WLF facilities. Led a team of three to drive the continuous improvement of our environmental management programs, Landfill Free and other sustainability programs. Led the implementation of environmental strategies and action plans that ensured corporate sustainable development. Assisted in negotiating environmental service agreements and managed associated costs.

The Quality & Safety Specialist ensured compliance with OSHA, EPA, DNR and DOT. I led the continuous improvement team and lean management implementation while promoting actionable safety and quality practices in the workplace and construction project sites.

The Safety Manager provided leadership and guidance through change management and enhancing a culture of safety awareness. This position was responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of the safety programs while managing the safety and occupational health teams.

From 1997 to 2006, I worked in different departments throughout West Liberty Foods. The positions expanded my knowledge of the business and how all departments work together. Starting my career at West Liberty Foods as a quality technician, I gained valuable knowledge and experience in food safety that I’ve been able to carry forward throughout my entire career. I was selected by the company president to expand my experience as the Administrative Assistant where I built relationships with the senior management team and the board of directors. Further expanding my business acumen, I moved into the Product Coordinator role where I managed inventories and number 2 product sales, as well as coordinating new product development. These experiences allowed me to move into a Production Supervisor role where I inspired team excellence for over 90 team members, while promoting safety, food safety and continuous improvement.
