Profile bio

About Elizabeth Sweeny

Greetings! I specialize in publicity, art and art history, and education.Publicity: Publicity has been a focus of mine for over ten years. Working part-time as Pink Pig Press’ Publicity/Exhibits Manager, I collaborated with a close-knit team as we spearheaded the company’s booth presence at Book Expo America, scheduled and co-ran author events and signings, copyedited novels, and designed and wrote brochures and other promotional materials. More recently, in my role as Community Outreach Assistant for Manhattanville College, I helped with marketing and publicity for the School of Education’s Changing Suburbs Institute®. Among my accomplishments were expanding the mailing list by over 150 new contacts, designing and co-producing the inaugural edition of the Professional Development School newsletter, and copyediting an upcoming book in the Research in Professional Development Schools series.Art: As an artist, I have had the pleasure of illustrating two children’s books written by Vell Sweeny, both recipients of the Mom’s Choice Award®. Driven by my life-long passion for creating and studying art, I earned my B.A. in Art History from Manhattanville College and my M.A. in Modern and Contemporary Art, History and Theory from Purchase College. As an art historian, I co-curated the Spring 2016 exhibition, “Manfred Schwartz: Variations on a Theme” and I interned as a Museum Studies Archivist/Researcher for this same collection. During the internship, I photographed, archived, and enacted an accession number system for this new collection of over 150 original pastels, lithographs, paintings, and charcoals. My art historical specialties are: Art Restitution and Repatriation, Impressionism, and African Art. Education:As an undergraduate, I worked as a Supplemental Instruction Leader, leading weekly review sessions and providing study techniques. Seeing the light bulb flash in people’s minds as they discovered the pure joy in connecting new concepts inspired me to pursue my Master’s in Childhood Education, which I am currently working on. Having designed numerous standards-based lesson plans for the elementary grade levels across content areas, I have experience with Scope & Sequence as well as traditional lesson planning. Above all, I strive to keep learning fun, relevant, and interactive, helping all learners discover their true passions in life and reach their full potential!
